Commission appoints Brent Shelton interim county appraiser as Mark Clark plans retirement

The commission adopted a resolution appointing Brent Shelton as interim county appraiser effective July 1, 2025, for a period of six months while Sedgwick County conducts a national recruitment for the permanent appraiser.
Sheena Schmitz, chief human resources officer, said the current county appraiser, Mark Clark, indicated plans to retire after more than 30 years of service. "Brent Shelton, our current deputy CFO, will be appointed interim county appraiser effective 07/01/2025 for a period of 6 months while the county conducts a national search," Schmitz said. Commissioners thanked Clark for his long service and welcomed Shelton in the interim role.
The resolution passed on a roll-call vote with all commissioners recorded as 'Aye.' The county indicated staff will begin the national search process during the interim period.
