Police chief reports recruitment hurdles as department runs written and physical tests

Shoemaker said the department had applicants who started the process but many "didn't wanna fill out the the application that it asked apparently too many personal questions, and they took themselves out of the the lineup." He described a two-step process: a physical test followed by a written test and interviews; the department held its first-ever physical test approved months ago and expects most candidates to pass. Chief Shoemaker said tonight was "round 2" with written testing and interviews continuing.
No action was taken at the meeting beyond the informational report. Shoemaker said staff will continue testing and interviews and will bring qualified candidates forward when selections are made.
