Weber County commissioners voted to approve a three-year contract for an AI document-extraction and search tool presented as a DocAI system.
The vendor representative described a system that extracts text from scanned records and offers an online AI search tool that would let users search county records by names, legal descriptions or parcel numbers. "This is a DocAI system. What it's going to do is it's gonna skip multiple steps that right now, we need multiple employees to do," the representative said. He said the county would be able to provide genealogy users and homeowners easier access to scanned documents and that the contract is front-loaded so the county could exit if needed.
Commissioners said the contract was discussed during budget conversations and praised the step toward modernized records access. A motion to approve the contract passed by voice vote.
The vendor also mentioned exploratory features described as a homeowner 'wallet' to centralize property documents and said staff would determine authentication details later.
