After taking the oath, Commissioner Chris Parker thanked those who supported him and described community connections he said shaped his readiness for the role.
“1st of all, I wanna thank, Don Martin for his many years of service to our community and for our camaraderie over the years,” Parker said, and added, “I would not be in this position right now if it wasn't for so many of you in this room.” He mentioned prior service on the YMCA board, the Winston-Salem–Forsyth County Utilities Commission (including serving as chair), the Board of Trustees at Forsyth Tech, and his family business, Iona Village.
Parker also acknowledged attendees from Wake Forest University and local emergency services and said he looked forward to collaborating with fellow commissioners. A reception honoring Parker was announced to follow the meeting.
