Kirkland board adopts minutes, schedules budget hearing and appoints part-time officer

The Town of Kirkland Board convened on Oct. 9, 2024, and carried four resolutions including approval of the Sept. 25, 2024 minutes, setting a public hearing for the 2025 Preliminary Budget, appointing a part-time police officer and approving audited bills for the meeting.
Supervisor Robert J. Meelan opened the meeting at 5:00 p.m. and the board moved through routine business and department reports before adjourning at 5:19 p.m. Councilwoman Melanie L. O’Neil moved to approve the Sept. 25 minutes; Councilman Richard J. Maxam seconded the motion and the board adopted the resolution with Councilwoman Donna E. Yando recorded as abstaining. The board later voted unanimously to set a public hearing on the 2025 Preliminary Budget for Oct. 23, 2024.
During a brief budget workshop, Budget Director Anthony Arcuri told board members that there will be no sales tax increase for 2025 and that sales tax and investments continue to grow. The board also approved audited bills showing department totals including A: $11,619.93; B: $14,319.73; DA: $35,357.24; DB: $29,705.34.
The meeting record shows routine departmental updates — including a police department hire and plans to list two vehicles for sale — along with plans to ask two planning/zoning members if they wish to be reappointed to terms ending December 2029. The board adjourned at 5:19 p.m.
