"We owed approximately a $140,000 in water, additional water charges for a 12 month period," Bocaitis said, adding the figure surprised the organization because prior annual bills were about $25,000.
Bocaitis said the city provided meter and billing data that appear inconsistent: "for years, our annual water usage was about 2,000,000 gallons," she said, and "based on the city's recent calculations, we're now being told that our water usage exceeded 9,000,000 gallons in a 12 month period." She described repeated, unsuccessful requests for a meeting with staff and said the camp is being billed roughly $8,000 per month under a payment plan it did not agree to. Bocaitis asked specifically for a meeting with a staff member, "maybe the director of public utilities," to reconcile meter records and billing calculations so the Girl Scouts can explain the charges to their board and members. The mayor thanked her for the comment; no formal council action on the matter was recorded at the meeting.
