Council hears why public-works director search remains open

The Town Administrator (speaker 1) updated the council on the public-works-director recruitment, saying four finalists flagged concerns about council dynamics or compensation and no final offer was made.
“Several of them watched prior council meetings and after that decided I wanna work there,” the administrator said, adding that some local applicants were interviewed but not all were qualified. The administrator said initial phone screenings and reference checks are performed before interviews.
A council member (speaker 7) requested that council members be allowed to sit in on interviews to better understand hiring decisions; the administrator replied the hiring panel and administrator carry responsibility for staff hiring but agreed to consider better information sharing with the council.
