Council approves two street closures for October fall festivals

The council approved closure requests for Church Street (Oct. 12, 11 a.m.–3 p.m.) and Steelawanna Ave. (Oct. 26, 5–8 p.m.) for neighborhood fall events and referred the closures to Public Safety and Public Works.
Two separate requests from community organizers were placed on the agenda seeking temporary street closures for neighborhood fall festivals. Resident Kimberly Smith requested closure of Church Street in front of 2nd Baptist Church on Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; she wrote, "I'm requesting that Church Street be closed to traffic in front of 2nd Baptist church from 11 am to 3 pm on Saturday October 12, 2024." The council approved the request and referred it to Public Safety and Public Works.
A second request from Yakenna L. Burse sought closure of Steelawanna Ave. between Pearl St. and Washington St. for a Fall Harvest Festival on Oct. 26 from 5–8 p.m.; the council approved that request as well and referred it to the same departments. Both actions carried with unanimous votes recorded in the minutes.
