Town attorney to draft ordinance to raise unpermitted connection fine to $5,000

Town Attorney Lyndsey Ryan told the Council that the Town currently assesses a $100 municipal infraction fee for unlawful or unpermitted connections to the town’s water and sewer system and proposed increasing the fine to $5,000, which she said is the maximum allowed by state law. "Attorney Ryan stated that the Town currently has a municipal infraction fee of $100.00 for unlawful and unpermitted connections to the Town’s water and sewer and suggested that the Council increase the fine to $5,000.00 which is the maximum allowed by State Law."
The Council agreed with the recommendation and directed Attorney Ryan to draft an ordinance for review and introduction at the July meeting. No ordinance text was presented at the June 4 meeting; the action recorded in the minutes is direction to prepare proposed ordinance language for Council consideration.
