Trappe introduces budget and zoning ordinances; public hearing set for May 7

President Schmidt read three ordinances during the council meeting on April 2. Ordinance 1-2025 adopts the General Budget for fiscal year July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026, establishes a residential tax rate of $0.33 per $100 of assessed value, a commercial/business personal property and public utilities tax rate of $0.75 per $100, and sets an annual residential trash-collection fee of $189.80. Commissioner Walter Chase moved to introduce Ordinance 1-2025 and Commissioner Jeremy Newnam seconded; the council approved introduction unanimously.
The council also introduced Ordinance 2-2025 to adopt an updated official Zoning Map and Ordinance 3-2025 to repeal and reenact the Town Zoning Ordinance. Edgar Harrison provided a brief overview of the changes in Ordinance 3-2025. The council set a public hearing for all three ordinances on May 7, 2025 at 5:45 p.m., giving the public an opportunity to comment prior to final action.
