Mayor Vida B. Williams used her State of the City remarks to preview a multi-part capital improvements package funded in part by newly received certificates of obligation.
Mayor Williams said Fort Bend County Road & Bridge will perform the parking-lot rehabilitation in mid-to-late August for roughly $40,000, far below a previously proposed $307,000 price. "We will not have to pay the $307,000 that was proposed previously. Fort Bend County Road And Bridge will be providing us rehab for $40,000," she said. The mayor also described a planned wellness park (at the food-truck site) that will include exercise areas, a serenity garden, a community garden, and space for events and demonstrations. She said outside funding has been secured for conceptual designs.
The mayor told the council the city received certificates of obligation, which she said enable the largest capital improvement project Arcola has undertaken and will allow investments in streets and other areas that previously lacked significant investment. She asked residents to participate in an upcoming dinner-and-dialogue town-hall meeting to give input on the capital improvements plan.
