New Berlin board hears 90% design timeline, DOH OKs backwash option for water project

Brian Skidmore of engineering firm Barton & Loguidice presented the Village’s Drinking Water Infrastructure update, outlining a stepped schedule for completing design and permitting. He said the team is preparing 90% design drawings, coordinating with the Department of Transportation on traffic-control measures, identifying soil-boring locations and holding an easement meeting in November prior to submission of permit materials in November 2025.
Skidmore told the board that because there is no room for a filter outside the floodplain, the Department of Health approved a backwash system as the alternative. He said the project team will likely need to create a second access hatch on the water tank after further review with DOH. The board and engineer set a September workshop for 90% design of water mains and scheduled a 90% design workshop for wells and treatment on Oct. 22, 2025, ahead of regulatory submissions in November.
