The Lakewood City Council voted 3-2 on Oct. 6 to repurpose the position vacated by Miss Turner into an additional code enforcement officer, approving a salary of $56,747 for the role. The council president said the position had been budgeted in the current fiscal year and the administration asked that the vacancy be repurposed.
Council members questioned whether James Gibson had already been absorbing Wanda (Miss Turner)'s duties and whether the 0.25 FTE request should have been included in the budget adopted roughly eight weeks earlier. "They've got so much ground to cover, and they can't... they just can't, they don't have the manpower to cover it," the council president said, arguing the department needs additional staffing. A staff member added that "code enforcement is very busy" and noted an October 24 registration deadline for the 2025–26 code enforcement basic training program as the reason the administration placed the item on the agenda.
The formal motion was made by Murano and seconded by Anderson. The clerk recorded the vote as: McBlack — No; Anderson — Yes; Moretti — Yes; Sirdijk — No; Murano — Yes. The motion carried, 3–2. Council members and staff said they will monitor how administrative duties are formalized in case additional changes are needed if the staffer covering multiple roles no longer does so.
