The recreation department announced a slate of community events and possible facility upgrades at the Aug. 10 council meeting. Recreation representative Griffin told council Super Saturday will be Aug. 29 with games at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., and the Central Tigers meet‑and‑greet is set for Aug. 17 at Bullock Field.
Griffin said the department is exploring a state grant to upgrade a 42‑year‑old lighting system at Bolek (more details to come). When council asked for a cost estimate, staff said replacing lights would run roughly $70,000 without poles and about $250,000 with poles; the department is evaluating options and potential funding. The tourism/economic development representative also summarized upcoming events (a Shop with a Cop concert Sept. 25, Trunk/Trains Oct. 31), noted new Main Street businesses and said staff are working on marketing and holiday‑lighting alternatives to reduce costs.
No formal council action was taken; staff said additional information and possible grant details will be provided in future meetings.
