Sudbury COA authorizes support letter for ADA upgrades at Haskell Field

Sudbury Combined Facilities Director Sandra Duran told the Council on Aging that a facilities self-assessment and transition plan completed four years earlier identified Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) issues at Haskell Field and that it is time to implement the plan to provide access required by the State Architectural Board. The plan discussed by staff and a working group includes a second basketball court, a summer camp pavilion and a circuit path around Haskell Field to create universal access.
Director Duran said the request to the Community Preservation Committee would match a $250,000 grant application to the Massachusetts Office for Disability Services. With the grant filing deadline imminent, Vice Chair Pat Tabloski volunteered to draft a letter of support on the council's behalf; Tabloski moved to authorize her to prepare the letter for the chair to sign and transmit to Director Duran before the June 10 deadline. The motion was seconded by Dr. Joel Bauman and received a unanimous voice vote in favor.
The council recorded that Park and Recreation, State Representative Carmine Gentile, the Select Board and the Commission on Disability had already furnished letters of support. The COA's action authorizes staff to include the council's support in the grant package but does not itself appropriate funds or change project design.
