Several residents pressed the commission to capture noise information during the recreation study, arguing that the character of the lake changes when a large fraction of boats are noisy. Rich Watkins urged survey designers and field teams to record whether boats have transom exhausts, saying noise enforcement has fallen and that decibel testing appears infrequent in recent years: “In 2021, there were 14 noise tests. In 2022, there were 2 noise tests,” he said.
Staff answered that the survey includes noise‑related questions and an open comment field, and said they will gather and organize comments for analysis. The presenter noted the prior survey drew about 1,000 responses and said outreach this year — via QR posters, email lists and partners — should produce more replies. “I think the survey…does have a place where a question asks…did you have a time when you did not wanna be on Lake George because of these reasons? And one of them is noise,” staff said.
