Lee County to solicit bids for retaining-wall project after city review; artifact relocations planned

The Lee County Board heard an update on its retaining-wall and site-improvement project and was told staff expects to advertise bid packages this week.
Eric, who presented the maintenance department report, said the electrical work is finished but the project remains delayed while Nitecore awaits state approval; he told the board it could be “another 3 to 6 weeks” before contractors mobilize. Jeremy, a county staff member, said the bid documents are complete and staff’s goal is “to have it out for bid on Friday.”
Board members discussed coordination with the City of Dixon, and the chair said county staff presented final renderings to Dixon officials, who supported the plan. The project will be split into four bid packages covering excavation and demolition, concrete and retaining walls, electrical work and site planting; Eric said county staff will oversee the work as it progresses.
The board also discussed relocating a set of statues and artifacts and moving a peace cannon to Dixon’s Peace Park. Jeremy said placing the cannon across the street in Peace Park could discourage vandalism. The chair said several pieces, including Judge Hill’s bench, will be reused and one item will be relocated to the city.
No formal motion on the project was recorded; staff said the procurement notice will be published and further public information will follow when final renderings are displayed at a board meeting and shared with local media.
