The Lake George Park Commission unveiled a 2025 Recreation Study designed to assess boating and recreational use across the lake. Staff described three components: analysis of 10 years of marine‑patrol reports, registrations and DEC day‑use statistics; a public recreation perception survey launching immediately and running through mid‑September; and a surface‑use assessment using helicopter flyovers on peak summer afternoons (the team scheduled an initial flyover for July 5 and a repeat on Labor Day) along with drone and volunteer observations.
Staff said the survey will be distributed widely — posters with QR codes at about 80 sites, marina and municipal email lists, the Park Commission website and partner organizations including the Lake George Chamber and local land conservancy. The study team plans a public information meeting in November or December and aims to deliver a final report in December or January. “These will be active. I’ll begin to distribute them today,” the presenter said when announcing the survey rollout.
