At the May 5 meeting the commission sketched a timeline for updating Onancock’s comprehensive plan: internal data and research in June, drafting during July and August, and public outreach beginning mid-to-late September. The Chair asked for volunteers to lead topic areas and said she would pull together a simple two-page document to take to neighborhood outreach sessions.
The Chair emphasized water as a principal topic, saying, "I really feel like water is 1 of the principal topics," and urged that whoever joins the commission be versed in water issues. Members also agreed to focus on zoning, economic development and a stronger set of maps (including layered GIS maps) to improve public understanding. Staff and commissioners discussed which elective plan elements to include and noted that transportation and sidewalk priorities should be realistic while also keeping an aspirational wish list in case funding appears.
