Council discussed a proposed memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Rangely School District and the Rangely Police Department to formalize the school resource officer (SRO) arrangement for the 2025-26 school year.
A police representative said the city attorney and Officer Kilduff had reviewed the draft and that the department intends to provide SRO coverage even if the MOU is not yet formally signed. "We will operate under our previous MOU," the official said, and added that the department had arranged schedules to provide coverage for the first day of school.
Several council members said the school district should have the opportunity to review the document before the town signs. Councilmember Robbie moved to table the MOU so the district could examine and propose any modifications; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. Council directed staff to forward the draft to the district promptly so the parties can complete their reviews.
