DPW flags aging water main, near-miss locate and expensive playground repairs

DPW Superintendent Jared Kline reported significant recent activity: the crew completed 46 dig requests for soil borings (many near the water main), engaged NY Rural Water to identify line locations after the Village locator could not locate some lines, and experienced a near miss with a NYSEG line. A section of main on Route 8/South Main Street was described as in very bad condition and required excavation and repair.
Kline said the playground centerpiece will cost about $30,000 to replace and that full repairs recommended by the inspector could total as much as $65,000. Mayor Peter Lennon said he is preparing an application for a Chobani Legacy Grant that, if selected, could be used to repair and upgrade the playground and park. Additional DPW notes included the rented sweeper removing 60 yards of material and 30 catch basins cleaned, a new salter in service, and a DOH request for confined space training related to the water tank.
