Town of Columbus accepts New Berlin EMS coverage contract; Board to consider fly car funding

Mayor Peter Lennon reported that the Town of Columbus Board accepted the NBAS contract proposal for primary coverage of the Columbus area served by the New Berlin Fire District for $23,500, with a start date of Jan. 1, 2026. EMS Captain Bryan Whitaker reported 16 calls in September (12 calls within the district, 10 within the village and 2 within the town) and noted ongoing training and procedural updates including CPR renewals and an upcoming EVOC class.
Board members discussed EMS funding: there is roughly $19,000 available from Columbus for EMS and the board said it would like to allocate approximately $15,000 toward a fly car; details are to be presented at the November meeting. The EMS team also completed new Standard Operating Guidelines, began establishing training files and medical personnel files, and implemented PCR quality control procedures prior to billing.
