Highway superintendent: DEC satisfied with Perkins Clearing work; public comment open on proposed trails

Randy LaVarnway, Lake Pleasant’s highway superintendent, told the Town Board on Sept. 2 that DEC is satisfied with the town’s work on DEC road in Perkins Clearing and that the agency recently held a public meeting at LPCS about proposed hiking and snowmobile trails.
LaVarnway said discussion at the DEC meeting included trail routing and recreational uses; when Councilman Don Braunius asked if DEC planned to route trails off local roads, LaVarnway said "there was not discussion in this direction." Councilmember Meg Parascandola noted that, "they are open to public comment until September 16th" for anyone who wants to comment on the plans.
LaVarnway also told the board the town’s old pickup chassis is listed on Auctions International and was "going for over $1,000 to date," with the listing to remain up for another two weeks. He reported vandalism on the pathway to a section of dock before Labor Day, prompting board discussion about public-safety and maintenance follow-up.
