Lake Pleasant board tables request to fly POW flag at Airdville Cemetery
Summary
A proposal to fly a POW flag under the American flag in Airdville Cemetery was discussed and tabled after board members raised concerns it would set a precedent for other flag requests and potentially shift the character of the site. The board did not adopt the flag change at the Sept. 15 meeting.

Don Braunius introduced discussion of a donated POW flag for Airdville Cemetery and asked whether the town should allow it to be flown under the American flag. Highway Superintendent Randy LaVarnway and Councilwoman Kathy O'Connell expressed concern that allowing the POW flag could establish a precedent leading to additional flag requests and might turn the site into a more general veterans' memorial. The board tabled the issue for further consideration rather than approving the change at the Sept. 15 meeting.
Meg Parascandola noted that allowing a second flag could create expectations for subsequent requests. No formal vote to adopt the flag was taken; the matter was left on the table for future action. The discussion appears as Resolution #125 in the meeting minutes.
