Sarpy County approves $91,781 cash-recycler purchase after single local bid

The Sarpy County Board approved Resolution 219 to buy and service a cash-recycling/counting machine for $91,781 after only one vendor submitted a responsive bid; county staff said the machine will reduce counting errors and overtime for the treasurer's office.
The Sarpy County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 11 approved Resolution 219 to purchase a cash recycler and maintenance agreement from Money Handling Machines, Inc. for $91,781, including the first year of service.
"On June 24, the purchasing department opened 1 bid for the money handling, machine for for cash recycler, to the Sarpy County treasurer in the amount of $91,781," said Beth Garber, assistant county administrator, during the presentation of the item. Garber told commissioners that purchasing contacted six vendors but only one could provide service within the Omaha metro area.
Commissioners pressed staff on whether the county was getting a fair price given the single bid. County Treasurer Jason described operational benefits: "So what this does, it, will take in and hold within a safe built into itself and maintain reports, but, it will automatically count instead of having the tellers count their door at the end of every night." He said the machine should reduce human error and overtime caused by repeated recounts.
Commissioner Warren moved to approve Resolution 219 and Commissioner Kluge seconded; the motion passed. The purchase and maintenance agreement will be executed as presented.
