Boat-inspection team reports more than 16,000 checks and 38 confirmed invasive samples so far this season

The presenter (speaker 3) said crews had collected 84 samples from boats with visible plant matter; laboratory work confirmed 38 invasive-species detections: three curly-leaf pondweed, ten Eurasian watermilfoil, nine water chestnut, two quagga mussel, and two fanwort. Staff described the sample-tracking process — each sample is logged to the vessel registration number and entered into the statewide database to help trace source waters.
Commissioners and residents asked about inspection stations, cross-jurisdictional card programs and the challenge posed by wakeboard boats with large ballast intakes. Staff said they will consult other lake programs (including protocols used in Tahoe) and consider changes to survey and inspection procedures if manufacturer trends continue.
