The Lake George Park Commission voted to authorize up to $80,000 from the State Environmental Protection Fund for a sewer-line burial project in the Hamlet of Duluth Landing, Town of Dresden, aimed at moving two elevated pipes under Foster Brook to reduce the risk of untreated sewage entering Lake George.
Town Supervisor Charles Tall (speaker 8) and Susie Shad (speaker 2) told commissioners the systems have presented a known risk for years and that directional boring to place the pipes under the stream bed is fully engineered. Tall said the Lake George Association has committed $40,000 and engineers estimate the total project cost at about $214,000. Commissioners authorized staff to execute required agreements and to disburse funds on a reimbursable basis once the project is complete and the engineer approves the work.
Commissioners discussed permitting depth and whether work would trigger DEC disturbance permits; staff said initial tests show borings will be below the 6-foot disturbance threshold. The commission also approved an MOU authorizing the chair to sign on behalf of the commission to formalize partnership with Dresden. The motion passed by voice vote.
