Ruby Shumway, who submitted a Home Health report to the board, described planning for outreach case management to offer services such as asset planning and assistance accessing Medicare and Medicaid, extending services beyond Petersburg to include Wrangell.
Shumway clarified that Medicaid is currently the only payer covering in-home personal care services, prompting exploration of a separate business line—within or adjacent to Home Health—to provide personal care to patients who would otherwise pay out of pocket. She also noted the current shortage of caregivers in the community and said existing CNA staff would be utilized with potential need for additional hires if the program expands.
The board asked for clarification about scope, and leadership described planning efforts focused on affordability and a sustainable service model. No funding amounts or firm launch dates were provided at the meeting.
