Brownfield ISD reports midyear assessment gains, flags red-flag grade groups for targeted intervention

District instructional leaders presented a midyear academic report that showed notable improvements in early-childhood unit assessments and several positive high-school retest outcomes while identifying specific grade-level "red flags" for targeted intervention.
At the pre-K level, a campus instructional leader reported unit-assessment growth: "At the beginning of the year, we were sitting at 21% approaches... now we're at 72 approaches... our master's was at 5. Now we're at 28%. Of the 127 tested, we already have 36 students on our campus that have mastered all of the pre-k concepts," the presenter said. The district described weekly data updates, PLC data digs and intervention forms used to monitor and adjust instruction.
High-school staff reported retest activity: administration said they had 69 retest attempts in December with 17 passes (24%), and in a later window had 63 attempts with 25 passes (40%). Staff credited several local adjustments and instructional supports with the improved outcomes and described plans for boot camps, interim testing and targeted E&I group work to continue progress.
Board members asked clarifying questions about alignment between unit assessments and CLI or NWEA; presenters described how the comprehensive unit assessments were created to map end-of-year pre-K guidelines and how the district uses NWEA cohort predictions and interim assessments for planning.
