District report flags buses not meeting safety requirements; superintendent suggests phased retirements

"I have to have it back to them Oh, back. By board approves. And it even says, if you have to have a call board meeting, they have to have it back and signed by the board on the 26th," he said in another context about a corrective submission. Regarding buses, the superintendent said he would prefer to retire buses that are not compliant rather than attempt extensive repairs, observing that about 20% of the fleet falls into that category and that the market will have more replacement buses available in the next three to four years.
Board members did not vote on a replacement program at the meeting; the superintendent indicated the district will phase out older vehicles and monitor opportunities to replace them as funding and availability align.
