Superintendent says district may end SHARS program after revenue plunge

"We are we're talking about, stopping doing the SHARS program in our district," the superintendent said, noting the program "used to be a program that, would would produce $600,000 $800,000 to the district" but that collections have declined to just over $100,000 in recent years. He added that administrative work to claim funds is "very tedious" and that the district recently had to repay $114,000.
Board discussion flagged an upcoming review by the Texas Medicaid & Healthcare Partnership: the superintendent said TMHP will conduct a visit in late February. No formal action was taken during the meeting; the superintendent said the district will keep the board informed as it evaluates whether continued participation is cost-effective.
