Arcola keeps tax rate steady at 0.649619; council approves levy ordinance

The Arcola City Council on Sept. 16 approved an ordinance setting the city's ad valorem tax levy for FY2025–26 and confirmed that the overall tax rate would remain the same as the prior year.
“Mayor and council, we are proposing that the tax rate remains the same,” City Administrator Dr. Annette Goldberg said during the meeting and cited the components of the rate (a maintenance-and-operations rate and a debt-service rate). The administration presented a maintenance-and-operations portion of 0.509864 and a debt-service portion of 0.139755, which together were stated as preserving the overall rate.
Council moved for a recorded vote on the ordinance to levy and collect taxes; the motion passed and will allow the city to continue funding its operations and debt service at the stated rate.
