Board approves Oak Grove Elementary's two-year turnaround plan with targets for reading and math

Trustees approved Oak Grove Elementary's two-year turnaround plan, a TEA-required template documenting student-outcome goals, curriculum and intervention strategies.
Miss Breyer (S16) presented the plan and said the campus used the TEA template and aligned its approach to the Lasso grant and Bluebonnet instructional materials. "With in this, part of the requirement, we are asked to look at the meets level for star performance for reading and for math. So as we look at the reading language arts, meets school, we have set that at 40% for next year," Breyer said, and later added, "For math, the, meets level in math, we've set it 38%."
The plan documents use of curriculum-embedded assessments, weekly PLCs facilitated by instructional coaches and administrators, data-dig protocols (student work analysis and interim-assessment data) and targeted intervention (tiered E and R time). Presenters emphasized the plan reflects work already underway under the Lasso grant rather than a wholly new set of practices.
Board member Matt Maldonado moved to approve the Oak Grove turnaround plan and Julian Hernandez seconded. The motion passed; one trustee announced an abstention. The approved plan will be submitted to TEA for review and may be returned with requested adjustments by the commissioner.
Trustees praised campus staff for data-driven work and said they expect to monitor implementation and outcomes during the plan period through 2028.
