District applied for grant to buy 14 metal detectors for events; decision expected in October

The East Stroudsburg Area School District reported it applied for a School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP) grant to acquire 14 metal detectors and the technology and training that accompany them.
A staff presenter told the board, “So this is just an FYI that, today, we actually applied for, a grant to get 14 metal detectors and the technology that goes along with that, to increase our security posture for parent events and outside events.” Staff said the detectors would be used primarily at non-student events — for example, back-to-school nights and stadium events — and that the units would be more robust than the district’s current portable detectors. The presenter added the grant application includes funds for training, a risk assessment and updates to the district emergency operations plan; staff said they hope to hear a decision by October.
Board members did not move to a formal action beyond acknowledging the application; the item was listed as an FYI for the board. The district will return with any grant award details and related implementation steps if the application succeeds.
