Transit official reports ridership gains after Whiteside County service begins

Greg, the transit district representative, told the committee the district added Whiteside County on July 1 and July reflected the first month with that service included. "In terms of the overall ridership that we produced for July, it was 5,335 rides," he said, and reported 10,671 total rides provided in July across the district.
Greg said fiscal year 2026 totals for the district (Lee and Ogle Counties) topped 95,000 rides. He described fleet pressures and replacement needs, saying many vehicles have passed 200,000 miles and the district expects to request funds to replace up to 31 vehicles because the average vehicle age is roughly 10 years. He also noted staff and partner agencies assisting operations and that operating assistance contracts were recently signed.
