Wildwood welcomes new precinct commander as longtime officer honored

Mayor Garretano introduced a change in leadership for the Wildwood precinct on Monday evening, inviting Captain Jim Mandel and incoming commander Captain Shanna Ostendorf to speak to the city council.
Captain Mandel, reassigned after nearly eight years serving Wildwood, said the county chief is realigning command staff and he felt “very comfortable turning over the reins” to Captain Ostendorf. Ostendorf, who said she has 27 years with the Saint Louis County Police and a background in patrol, highway safety and intelligence operations, told the council she is “really looking forward to this opportunity, getting to know everyone, and working with everyone to make Wildwood the safest place in Saint Louis County.”
Council members thanked Mandel for his service and welcomed Ostendorf. Council member Rambo called Mandel’s tenure “wonderful” and said the city would arrange a formal recognition next month. The council also read a proclamation honoring Officer John Bamer on the occasion of his retirement, noting his 26 years of service to the city. Bamer thanked the council and reminisced briefly about his time on the force, and Captain Mandel praised his professional approach to traffic enforcement.
