Board hears recommendation to consider naming track after coach Gary Moore

Doctor Joiner/Joyner told the board the Citywide School Building Committee has discussed a recommendation to name a track after longtime coach Gary Moore and asked the board to consider a vote after a community survey and policy review. "I would recommend that the board vote on it, based on his exemplary work, and that we also do a survey…to see what the support looks like," the committee member said.
Board members applauded the suggestion and Miss Downer noted that Moore was recently named the 2026 national boys track and field coach of the year. The committee said it will review existing naming policy and report back to the board with recommended next steps before any formal action.
