Council weighs moving July 4 parade; fireworks to remain on July 4

At the July 13 meeting Council discussed whether to move Plain City’s July 4, 2027 parade and related events because the holiday falls on a Sunday. President Tyler Harriman noted potential options including shifting the parade to July 3 or moving the parade later in the day on July 4. "Moving the parade to early or mid‑afternoon may present issues such as overly warm temperatures and inclement weather," Harriman said.
Councilmember Michael Terry said he had consulted Mayor Jody Carney, who suggested moving celebratory events to later on July 4; despite different scheduling options all council members agreed to keep the fireworks show on July 4, 2027. Staff cautioned that expanding events across multiple days would require additional staffing and incur higher event costs. Council asked the Parks and Recreation Committee to take up the scheduling question and advised staff to consult vendors about setup needs.
