Sheriff proposes landscaping and drainage work to stop water running over 14th Street; to be paid from law-enforcement building fund

Sheriff Wells presented a local bid to complete landscaping and drainage work at the law-enforcement building that would regrade the north side of the site, install storm boxes and tie the work into an existing buried storm drain designed to keep water off 14th Street.
“That fixes it for the next generation of people,” Sheriff Wells said while describing the proposal to bring in 60 tons of topsoil, install two drain basins and put down sod and black rock around the sign. He said the work would come from the law-enforcement building fund and referenced a fund balance in the neighborhood of $237,000.
Commissioners expressed support for doing the work correctly rather than piecemeal and asked the sheriff to bring details back to the next PBC meeting; county staff said the project appears to solve recurring complaints about runoff and could be completed within the fund’s remaining scope.
