The Howell City Council on June 22 adopted Traffic Control Order #303‑2, which updates time limits for several city parking lots, and unanimously voted to continue a moratorium on parking enforcement through June 30, 2026.
Police Chief Michael Dunn explained the purpose of the updated time restrictions and showed a color‑coded map of affected lots; Mayor Pro Tem Jan Lobur asked about methods to communicate the change to the public. "To approve the amended Traffic Control Order #303‑2, Establishing City Parking Lot Time Limits, as presented," moved Councilmember Jacob Schlittler and passed unanimously. Council then voted, on a motion by Luke Wilson and second by Michael Gaitan‑Flores, "To continue the moratorium on parking enforcement through June 30, 2026," also unanimously approved.
Officials said a public notification plan is needed before enforcement begins. The council did not set a firm communications timeline during the meeting; Lobur specifically inquired about community outreach methods. Next steps include staff developing an outreach and signage plan before enforcement resumes.
