Parks previews fall events and staffing; seeks renewal of field-maintenance contract

Parks staff provided a run-down of upcoming events and staffing status. Director Scott Michaelson listed several scheduled events including the Endless Summer Watermelon Ride (Sept. 15), a Beach Walk (Sept. 21), a skate competition tied to the Right Whale Festival (Nov. 2), and Sounds on Centre (Oct. 4). He also said the department is meeting with local groups about court refurbishments and would bring cosponsorship and special-event items to the City Commission in the near term.
Michaelson reported most full-time positions had been filled and only seasonal or temporary openings remain. He said the department had resumed sports-field chemical applications after an extended vacancy and will present a contract renewal to the Commission to continue that maintenance. The Committee thanked staff and nonprofit partners for their work on recent events and outreach.
Staff encouraged Committee members to promote public meetings and workshops through the city website and social media so the public can review art proposals and participate in discussions.
Next steps: staff will post workshop dates publicly and coordinate with Main Street, HDC and other partners for community input on public-art locations and special-event planning.
