Board members reported that Pleasant Prairie submitted formal objections to a proposed Kenosha casino after an open comment period closed this week.
President Dave Klimish said the Village’s filings object because Pleasant Prairie would not receive funding under the proposal while incurring increased first-responder calls and substantial traffic impacts at County Road C and Highway 50 exits. "We would also, even without any funding, we would be responsible for increase in first responder calls," Klimish said. He added that downstream flooding risks concern the village because of the site’s location in the Des Plaines River basin and potential shortcomings in off-site drainage commitments.
Trustees flagged social and public-safety consequences. Trustee James Kendra referenced a small rural community near an Indian reservation where the opening of a casino led to a large increase in demand for food pantry services; he said social consequences and increased policing needs merited objection. Staff (Tom Scherzl and his team) were thanked for preparing and submitting the formal objections on time.
The comments recorded at tonight’s meeting are the village’s formal administrative filings opposing the current casino proposal; the Board did not take any additional formal action beyond submission of objections during this meeting.
