Deputy or staff member Jane explained that existing language required citizens to be "appointed" but failed to specify which citizens; the proposed change explicitly requires residency in the Village of Pleasant Prairie for members of the Planning Commission, Park Commission, Police and Fire Commission and Board of Review. Jane also noted a conflict produced during the 2020 code recodification that appeared to leave appointment authority for the Police and Fire Chief with the Village Board; state statute, Jane said, assigns appointment authority to the Police and Fire Commission. Trustees approved the ordinance with a motion that included a direction for staff to review a separate partisan provision limiting more than three members of a commission from belonging to the same political party.
Trustee James Kendra moved adoption with an added request that staff look into the partisan provision; the board voted to approve the ordinance unanimously among trustees present.
