The Pleasant Prairie Plan Commission voted to approve site and operational plans for a four-story parking structure proposed for Freighter South (formerly Saint Catherine's). The applicant described the structure as roughly 350,000 square feet, with about 700 parking spaces and a total height of 68.8 feet; elevators will serve each end and a two-level skywalk will connect to the Schmidt Surgery Center.
"Freighter South, Pleasant Prairie, formerly known as Saint Catherine's, is proposing to construct a 350,000 square foot, 4 story parking structure, which would come in at a total height of 68.8 feet," planning staff said during the presentation. Staff described security measures, expansion of the facility's digital security imaging system to cover the parking area, and restricted after-hours campus entry with card access.
Commissioners asked for clarification on how the garage height relates to adjacent buildings. Staff said the previously approved PUD allowed for higher maximum heights but noted that the hospital building itself does not exceed roughly 80 feet. A project representative explained that the skywalks occupy the top two levels of the parking structure and will provide direct access to the hospital building. The commission approved the site and operational plans by voice vote.
