Staff updated the committee on several funding opportunities. The Energy Innovation grant application for a green-building market study is pending and, "they are not gonna make a decision until fall," the staff member said, adding the decision window could be as late as October–December 2026. The Sustainability Institute applied for a La Crosse Area Community Foundation standard grant and staff provided a letter of support.
Staff also summarized a DNR urban-forest grant the parks department is pursuing: a 50/50 match program up to $25,000 to support downtown boulevard tree plantings at 12 locations. "The deadline for that is October 1," the staff member said; the parks department is still preparing the application. Committee members asked to be alerted to additional grant opportunities and to coordinate with consultants (Bolton & Menk) for targeted grant research on flood- and levee-related projects.
