Monroe council presses for greater transparency in sheriff contract with Benton County
Summary
Council directed the City Administrator and the Mayor to raise questions with the Benton County Sheriff about activity logs, patrol locations and hours assigned to Monroe, differentiation between patrol and administrative duties, and recognition of Monroe's use of the Sheriff's substation and utilities.
Council continued review of the City's intergovernmental agreement with the Benton County Sheriff's Office and expressed a need for greater transparency and accountability in contracted services. Council members asked staff to request more detailed activity and patrol logs and clarification about the patrol locations and hours assigned to Monroe.
Council also asked staff to distinguish patrol activities from administrative work billed to contract hours, to consider Monroe's smaller population compared with other contract cities, and to explore whether the City's use of the Sheriff's substation and utilities should be recognized in the contract. Council directed City Administrator C.A. Fiorelli and the Mayor to raise these specific items when meeting with the Sheriff.
