Franklin County Commissioner Chairman Robert Swinson updated the council on the new event center and gym building, reporting that interior work is near completion and the facility is preparing to host its first community event. "Scoreboards are in 2 of the 4 boards are in...Sports court goes down...Preston High School is gonna have their Christmas dance in that building in December," Swinson said, adding that two remaining scoreboards and the sports-court floor installation were imminent.
Swinson said paving of the parking lot was delayed because settling in sewer and water trenches required additional work; crews will smooth the lot and place 0.75-inch wash rock to keep it usable over the winter. Council members asked about public access for tours; Swinson invited members to view the building and noted staff are finalizing a fee schedule and plans for public hours. The council welcomed the update and congratulated staff for progress and community uses planned for the new facility.
