Council hears updates on splash pad, utilities and staffing
Summary
Staff told the council the splash pad is nearly ready and construction on Commerce and Sheppard avenues continues. Work has caused intermittent water and electric outages; staff said crews are door‑knocking to notify affected residents and said one police officer vacancy remains.
Public works and other staff briefed council on several operational items. The splash pad project is close to opening — staff said the coating is down with a few punch‑list items and landscaping left — and work on Commerce and Sheppard avenues continues with outreach letters distributed to affected residents. Staff cautioned that some water-line work may still cause outages and confirmed crews have been notifying residents directly.
Staff also notified the village that the police department is down one officer and expects a retirement this year; council members asked staff to publicize the vacancy to attract applicants. Council thanked Parks & Rec and other departments for a successful Fourth of July event earlier in the month.
