FEMA deposits more than $1.1 million for Lake Ozonia repairs, town told

At the Sept. 15 meeting, Project Committee member Peggy Burnham told the board that FEMA reimbursements have begun arriving for storm damage repairs in the Lake Ozonia area. "A check in the amount of $555,255.00 has been deposited in the bank for Lake Ozonia Site 1," she reported, and she added Site 2 has been awarded $542,932.00 that "will be deposited soon." She also said that emergency sites have been DEC‑approved and a check for $99,492.00 is expected.
Burnham said engineering fees already paid will be reimbursed, "three‑quarters of Supt. Crump’s time will be reimbursed," and she plans to submit a bill for the hours she invested coordinating the work. Highway Superintendent Crump told the board the town has three years from receipt of the check to make the required repairs. Councilperson Vickie French suggested establishing a separate bank account to track FEMA funds for easier reporting.
Burnham recommended combining multiple Lake Ozonia sites into one bid package to simplify procurement; she and Supt. Crump said that, in the end, the infrastructure would be repaired without cost to town taxpayers because of the FEMA funds and related reimbursements. The board did not take further formal action beyond the informational report at the meeting.
