Belknap County adopts new federal mileage rate of 76¢, effective July 1, with retro pay review

Staff informed the board that the IRS has increased the standard mileage reimbursement rate by 3.5¢ to 76¢ per mile, effective July 1, and asked the commissioners to adopt the higher rate for county reimbursements. The board voted in favor of adopting the new rate.
"Starting, July 1, the IRS mileage rate increased 3.5¢... So we are asking for the commissioners to adopt the new mileage rate at the, 76¢," the staff presenter said. The presenter noted that, because the change took effect July 1, staff will go back and determine whether employees should receive retroactive payments for mileage incurred since that date.
The vote recorded in the meeting transcript approved the adoption of the 76¢ rate and directed staff to review payroll records for any retroactive compensation that may be due.
